Why LEDs are Still Better than CFLs

There’s been a lot of debate on energy efficient bulbs, particularly on which bulbs are better in terms of light quality, cost and efficiency. The top two contenders in the market are CFLs or compact fluorescent lamps and LEDs or light emitting diodes. Both have their own benefits, but when you really weigh which one is better, LED light bulbs to take the lead. So why are LED lights better than CFLs?

They Use the Least Amount of Power Although there’s no denying that both CFLs and LED lights use less power compared to regular incandescent bulbs, LED lights by far, use the least. A 60-watt incandescent can be replaced with a 6 to 8 watt LED, depending on the brand. With CFLs, it’s going to take a 13 to 15-watt bulb to create the same brightness.

They don’t Contain Toxic Materials One of the most important things to consider when buying something you’ll be using at home is safety. LEDs are one of the safest light bulbs you can use. They don’t heat up as much as incandescent and they’re commonly not made out of glass. Another thing that gives them an edge over other bulbs is that they don’t contain any harmful chemical. CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, making them a hazard and difficult to dispose of.

They’re a Better Investment Although LED bulbs are considerably more expensive compared to other bulbs in the market, you still get to save a lot on the operation cost. Not only do they use less power, they also last longer compared to other bulbs. Prices for LED lights have also considerably become more affordable over the years and you can now buy them in sets, which makes them less expensive.
