Pet dogs, cats and even birds might find some of your homes light fixtures as attractive play toys that they can have fun with, but we all know that this might end up with them hurting themselves and destroying your light fixture.

As a responsible pet owner, it’s important that you keep your home safe for your pets, but it doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of your light fixtures. Here are a few tips on how you can make your lights more pet friendly.

Avoid Shiny Things Animals, especially birds, have a thing about shiny objects. For some reason, it attracts them like metal to magnets and some of them would do anything to get their little paws or claws on the items. Avoid placing fixtures that have too much bling or shine in them, especially the ones that catch and reflect light easily like metal or crystals.

Cool It Down Light bulbs create a lot of heat which actually attracts some animals. A major concern with this is what if they get too close to the bulb. Some bulbs can actually heat up to temperatures that can burn, so it’s best to keep them away from the heat. Better use newer bulbs like LEDs since they don’t produce a lot of heat when used.

Hanging Parts Won’t Do If you have a light fixture that looks more like a baby’s mobile, expect your pets to try to reach for it. Things that hang are always attracting to pets like cats. They get really curious and what to find out what the thing is or they think that it’s a toy that they can reach up and grab. Avoid using light fixtures like these or you might end up buying new LED bulbs for your lights.
