Holiday Power Saving

It’s almost that time of the year when we all gather around and have late night parties with our family and friends. Besides the food, the holidays also mean bright decorations and colorful lights that really set the mood. Finding ways to save power during the holidays is important since you don’t want to see a huge power bill by the time the New Year comes in. Here are a few ways to save power when you’re setting up your holiday decorations.

Keep a Schedule A schedule can really be a big help when it comes to saving electricity. You’re not going to keep these lights on all day so make it a point to just have them on for a certain amount of time during the night. Timers are a really useful tool for scheduling. You can set up a time for them to stay on and they’ll automatically turn off after the timer goes off. They’re also compatible with most lights, even new energy efficient ones.

Go for LEDs Over the years there have been light bulbs available in the market the offer the same, sometimes even better, light quality while using a fraction of the power common bulbs, like incandescent bulbs, use. LEDs or light emitting diodes are not just used for fair lights but on bigger and more elaborate light fixtures for holidays as well. Check if the bulb used on the holiday décor is a LED or ask if you can replace it with a LED.

Don’t Go Overboard Sure you want your house to look amazing with all the lights and glitter, but try not to go too crazy on the decorations. There are holiday decorations that don’t need to be plugged in but still look amazing, so make better choices when you jazz up your house for the holidays.
