Elk Grove California soon to have LED Street Lights
Residents at Elk Grove, California will soon have brighter nights as New LED bulbs will soon be lighting up their streets.
ELK GROVE, Calif. (KCRA) —Elk Grove residents will notice something different about their street lights as the city retrofits nearly 10,000 lamps with energy-saving LEDs. The light emitting diode lights were selected after a five-year pilot program with SMUD to test the emerging technology. Project managers wanted to find a light that would provide similar brightness to the existing high pressure sodium bulbs but at a significant energy savings. "We save about 60 to 70 percent on each of our light retrofits. Our goal in doing the project was at least 50 percent and we have far exceeded that," said Elk Grove senior civil engineer Jeff Werner.
