Design Tips – Making a Small Space Look Bigger with Lighting
Not many of us are blessed to have big homes with tall ceilings and huge rooms. But don’t fret, there are a few things that you can do to make any small space look bigger using lighting.
Light Up The easiest way to make a room look bigger is to use good lighting. The more well lit the room is, the more spacious it looks. Try to use LEDs because these give out a much brighter light compared to other bulbs and they’re a very economical investment. Windows are also a big help. Not only do they bring in natural day light and make the room seem bigger, they also help with ventilation. You can even place big mirrors across the windows which help reflect the light. The reflection also gives the illusion of a bigger space.
Match your Light Fixtures with the Room’s Size If you have a small space, you obviously don’t want to use lamps and light fixtures that are too big for the room. Keep away from using over-head lamps and chandeliers. Don’t fill the space with different kinds of lamps and lights. You can use bulbs like LED bulbs which are capable to lighting up a big space with just a single bulb. Also, try to space and arrange your light fixtures so that they evenly light up the space.
Cool Toned Bulbs Work the Best Finally, a cool toned bulb is better for small spaces. When buying a light bulb, you have a choice between bulbs with cool and warm tones. Warm bulbs have a yellowish tone to them, which is nice and relaxing. However, if you really want to brighten up a small area, a cool toned bulb, or a bulb that has a bluish tone to it, works much better.
