Choosing the Right Emergency Light
During an emergency like a storm or hurricane, the last thing you’ll want to do is run around in the dark trying to get things together. Emergency lights are a big life saver in these scenarios. They can stay on for hours, keep you safe and light up your way. Some people just stock up on flashlights and batteries, but it’s also a good idea to invest in one of those high power emergency lights made with LED light bulbs, which are prized for their power sipping abilities. Before you go to the hardware store and start buying out all the emergency light there, there are a few things to consider. Below are some tips to help you pick out the best emergency light.
Brightness The first thing you need to check on when purchasing an emergency light is how bright it going to be. Check the box or the tag on how many watts it consumes. However, for lights that are made with energy saving bulbs like LEDs, you’re better off looking at its lumens. An LED light bulb uses less watts to produce a bright light so going by watts would be difficult.
Power How long can it last? The longer it can stay on, the better. Although it’s definitely going to be a bit more expensive, it’s still a good investment. You don’t want to get an emergency light that can only last for less than four hours. Look for one that can store enough juice to last for a whole day or longer. This is where LEDs come in handy since they use less power, they can last longer.
Moveable If you need to bring it around, is it lightweight enough? Does it have handles? In some cases, you need a light source to make you way out, and emergency lights are perfect for this. If you can easily carry it around, then it would be a better choice.
