Arena Gets New LEDs
The PNC Arena was recently given a lighting make-over and had new LED bulbs installed. Basketball and hockey fans are definitely going to notice the big difference. Anyone attending a hockey or basketball game at PNC Arena next year might notice a slightly different tint of light. During the offseason, crews will install new LED lights in the bowl, the area that provides light for the playing surface at PNC Arena, home for the Carolina Hurricanes and N.C. State Wolfpack men’s basketball. It’s a move that modernizes the arena and should lower energy costs. With the current setup, annual energy costs for the lighting come to more than $56,000, mostly for hockey. The new system would come with annual energy costs of close to $15,000, or a nearly 75 percent reduction. More on the story at BizJournals.
