LED bulbs have become a common choice over the years for home use since they’re power-friendly and economical. Not to mention some countries are becoming a bit stricter about making electronic products in the market eco-friendly.

However, LED light bulbs can also be used in other places outside the home. You may not realise it, but most of the light bulbs you see around your hometown is actually LED light bulb.

Retail Brightness

It’s only natural that retail shops would switch over to LEDs. They cost less to maintain and they give off a brighter light. The brightness is actually another reason why shops are switching to LEDs. Some LEDs have a high Colour Rendering Index or CRI which is the measure of a light source’s ability to reproduce the colours of the objects it illuminates in comparison with an ideal or natural light source. The higher the CRI, the more natural and vivid the colour looks. With this, colours on clothes are more vivid and details are clearer, making LEDs ideal for retail lighting.

Stage Lighting

Whether you’re an actor, a musician, or someone who spends a lot of time on stage, you know that stage lighting can get you very uncomfortable. Stage lights are often tungsten-halogen (or quartz-halogen) which can get really hot. Nowadays, LEDs are being used in stage lighting since they give off a great light quality and they produce very little heat. Another great feature that makes LEDs ideal stage lights is that they are dimmable and they can change colours. This makes it easier for the crew to play around with the lights without going through the hassle of setting up a different lighting system for coloured lights.

Clinical Treatment

One surprising use for LED bulbs is for therapy. In areas where the weather is usually gloomy or in places that experience extreme winters where the sun hardly ever come out, many people are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. This is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons and usually affects people during the winter time or when the sun isn’t out. Those with SAD are treated with light therapy where they sit a few feet from a special light box, which uses LED's so that they can be exposed to bright light. This mimics natural outdoor light and causes a change in brain chemicals linked to mood.

Lighting Up Large Open Areas

LEDs make perfect outdoor lighting. Large LED floodlights and panels are ideal to use in lighting up large open areas. In fact, many cities all over the world are switching their old sodium vapour street lamps with new, more efficient LEDs. The streets are brighter, which has an effect on public safety. People feel safer when walking in a well-lit street and studies have shown a correlation between brighter street lighting and lower crime rates.  Many large stadiums are also using LEDs for their lighting. Theses bulbs give a different, clearer brightness, making it a better experience for those inside the stadium.

‘LI-FI’

Imagine being able to use LED lights to connect to the internet. there have been recent studies on how we can use light via LED bulb to connect to a network, creating new possibilities for wireless connection. Li-Fi is much faster than most standard Wi-Fi connections, and, perhaps most importantly, provides a connection that is significantly more secure.
