ROSENDALE >> The Town Board favors having communities in four counties awarded state grants to replace standard streetlights with LED units. The board endorsed the effort at a recent meeting that included a presentation by consultant Patrice Courtney Strong. On Monday, Strong said there are 16 communities considering the change, which can cut the cost of lighting streets by 40 to 60 percent. Strong said word about which communities will receive LED street light grants from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is not expected until the end of the year. A letter calling for the grants for communities in Ulster, Dutchess, Sullivan and Putnam counties will be sent to NYSERDA by Courtney Strong Inc., Citizens for Local Power, Abundant Efficiency and Light Smart Consulting.
