Philips Bags Prestigious Solid State Lighting Industry Awards

Posted on 06/03/2013 by Arthur

Proving once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of LED lighting, Philips recently earned accolades at the 4th annual NGL Solid State Lighting (SSL) Design Competition, winning four prestigious Next Generation Luminaire™ (NGL) awards in the outdoor category. Among the lighting solutions earning distinction at the awards ceremony include Philips Lumec, Crescent/Stonco, Wide-Lite and Color Kinetics, all of which were recognized for their sleek and innovative LED design.

The competition, sponsored by the International Association of Lighting Designers, the Illuminating Engineering Society, and the International Association of Lighting Designers, was started to recognize design excellence in LED luminaires for general lighting in commercial applications. NGL competitions are aimed at making it easier for lighting designers and producers to find products on which to base their designs on. LED products recognized by the NGL are required to meet stringent suitability and quality measures—it’s not just about energy efficiency.

Out of the 176 products submitted for evaluation by the awarding body, a mere 37 moved on to be included in the ten categories.

The Philips LED lighting solutions considered as notable or recognized include:

The Lumec SoleCity Luminaire

A product based on Philips’ LEDgine platform, the Solecity features a modular approach to LED lighting, allowing for flexible LED configuration that allow consumers to tailor their LEDs according to their needs, including light output and applications. The product belongs to the Streetscape Lighting Category and

The Wide-Lite Mini 300 LED

Designed as a replacement to HID lamps, the Mini 300 stands out for requiring no additional wiring, making it simpler than ever for owners to make lighting upgrades and enjoy the energy efficiency and reduce maintenance of LEDs. The Mini 300 is designed as a lighting solution for gas station canopies, and as such belongs to the Canopy Category.

The Crescent/Stonco LytePro16

The LytePro16 uses just 40 watts of electricity and uses more than 50 percent less energy compared to equivalent HID luminaires. The LytePro16 is a compact luminaire targeted as a solution for exterior wall-mounted lighting. It belongs to the Wall Mounted Area Lighting category.

Color Kinetics eW Graze MX Powercore

Standing out as having the highest lighting output in the entire line of white linear cove lights, the eW Cove MX Powercore offers 696 lumens per foot, delivering incredible performance for very little power. The product belongs to the Structure and Façade Lighting category.
